A Salute to Those Protecting UsSupporting those who are protecting us is really not an option, it's a necessity. The sacrifices our military is making are incredible. Families are disrupted, lives turned upside down, danger is constant, and the military rewards are almost nonexistent. The military is fighting for one reason, to protect us. It’s easy to write nice things about Americans who are defending America. Here are some other approaches. Thousands of American soldiers have been wounded in Afghanistan and Iraq fighting the war on terror. Even if you disagree with how the war is being fought, all loyal Americans should respect the sacrifice of the military, especially those who have been killed or injured. A new organization called the Wounded Warrior Project is helping injured American soldiers readjust to civilian life. The project does many things and certainly should be supported by all of us. Find out exactly what the organization is doing and how you can help. Money is clearly important, but they might also need your skill. This is a web site worth keeping in touch with. Our wounded vets deserve your consideration at all times. Another organization to consider is Soldiers' Angels which was started by the mother of a soldier in Iraq. In the summer of 2003, he wrote home expressing his concern that some soldiers did not receive any mail or support from home. His mother contacted a few friends and extended family to ask if they would write to a soldier or two. Soldiers' Angels are 100 percent volunteer run. Join Soldiers’ Angels to ensure that no soldier goes without mail or other support expressing our thanks for their sacrifice. They currently support thousands of American Service Members, including our wounded, around the world. They also send thanks via letters and e-mail to the military of Great Britain, Poland and Australia who serve by our soldiers' side in Iraq. Thank a teacher that you can read this page. Thank a veteran that you are reading it in English.
